I haven’t played either of the Shenmues, but the way the faces look makes me think this is a totally deliberate choice.
They’re going for a certain art style and even though it looks kinda wonky, they also kinda nail what they’re going for. If this gets polished a little bit, I think it’ll end up being pretty cool.

キャラクターに表情がありませんし、今のゲームのクオリティと比べてしまうと正直ハテナです・・・
背景というか風景は凄く良いと思うのですが、キャラクターの動きだったり服装のテクスチャー、髪の毛の動きなど細かい部分を見るとDCから進歩してなさそうな感じでした。
DCからのファンでしたし、楽しみにしていたのですが。がっかりしました。
もうちょっと様子見ます。

Environment look good, but GOD are those characters models UGLY

I am genuinely worried. I don’t mind outdated graphics, I can live with that. But the character models look awful. Ryo looks terrible. The fights are so poorly animated. This game is loved and supported by so many, you guys at YSNet really need to step it up.

they should not have released this trailer with the faces not animated yet. they will surly fix this, just look at the amazing environments in the trailer. but this now gives shenmue 3 a terrible reputation and for sure no new backers…

I get it’s trying to keep to the original art style and that graphics is not the most important aspect, but that isn’t an excuse to not use motion and facial capture in this day and age.

Die hard fans blindly defending it because nostalgia and stuff, I get it, but you’re just making excuses for lazy developers being lazy. Sure it might still be a great game, but it still could be so much better. Us as consumers should be vying for the best at all times and will benefit the industry as a whole in the long run. Please don’t be blinded by your nostalgic feelings.

Пипец, приплыли товарищи… Даю 99% процентов на то, что игра будет далека от оригинала. Достаточно просто взглянуть на лица главных героев, они словно какие-то пластилиновые… Даже Рио уже не тот. Я понимаю, что это всего лишь тизер, но после такого ролика надежда на светлое будущее Shenmue 3 угасает все больше и больше.

The game is still in development guys. if it has problems then don’t sweep it under the rug when they can still be fixed.

Shenmue 3 has more than a year of development left. I find this trailer showing some stregnths: environments and character design. It also shows some places that will need improvment: character models and their movements. It is wonderful that YS Net decided to share a little snippet of what they have been working on and we should encourage them. Shenmue 3 is going to be awesome!

Graphically this game is a joke but it is a build in progress and I’m sure it will receive some more polish before release. If it doesn’t, as long as the story is good then it’s whatever about the looks, it isn’t the end of the world.

Graphics looks fine, if gameplay and story won’t be worse than original games – just take my money.
We have thousands of games which look great, but absolutely boring or (and) full of bugs.

Honestly there are a couple of indie titles with better visuals than this. People questioning the graphics quality deserve to know where all the Kickstarter funds went.

Hi. I like the ambience of Shenmue 1 and 2. Of all the open world games, I love the way Shenmue made me feel. The nicer emotions it brings is better than Grand Theft Auto 4 or 5 or Fallout 3 or 4 or Witcher or Skyrim. Also that pet cat is one of the best touches. Shenmue is still the best open world. It’s also the hardest, physically- that mini game arm wrestling in Shenmue 2. God bless, Proverbs 31

the faces have a weird glow to them, they’re often brighter than anything else in a shot. they need work, but as we’ve seen with Mass Effect Andromeda, fixing the animations wouldn’t help when the writing is as bad as it is.

worst facial expression ever

I have never played a single Shenmue game but I don’t even care about the graphics this one is going to have, this is simply not the focus of the game. I do think they can improve the facial animations and other stuff, but gamers nowadays expect every game to have Final Fantasy XV graphics

These graphics look terrible, particularly the faces.
As a longtime fan who bought the DC games back in 2000 & 2001 and with my all time fav game as Shenmue II, don’t try to tell me the graphics are not that important. If you were a gamer back in 2000 you would know the Shenmue series was know as much for it’s cutting edge visuals as anything else.

So, here it is. If the game have sucess, there will be a future for Shenmue saga: Shenmue IV, perhaps V, more Shenmue media, spin offs,, etc. If the game not have sucess, Shenmue saga ends here. There not will be more games, the story will be incomplete, and the future of the saga will be dead. It depends of you. I have it clear, i always support this legendary saga. I didn’t know they still make games for the PS2

Seeing the trailer I can say that what bothers me are the facial animations and some of the characters, Shenhua I see strange. But good with a budget of 6 million there must be a reason for that, I hope that Shenmue 3 has a story worthy of what characterizes the saga and good scenarios that is also what I have enjoyed the most. It is true that games like The Witcher 2 with 10 million was a graphic highlight and I would like this Shenmue to improve in that aspect but taking into account that it is a smaller budget and a shorter development team there is a good reason for what is shown. I still have my expectations since the stages I liked, amazing music too. It is missing to see the combat system and other things. It is true that there is no graphic splendor as in his day, but that was in the past and to this day Shenmue 1 and 2 is not that they have aged perfectly well let’s say. My hopes do not go down and as I said there must be a reason for the animations, because if it is not understandable that those who contributed to the game want to know where that budget was.

Love it.. I find a xbox with shenmue only with 20euro and its a amazing catchup! and i find this series amazing… its bad through Shenmue 1 its not released on Xbox.. i need to buy a Dreamcast for 1..! im collector so i dont pref emulators…

Don’t forget to take this into consideration : Shenmue 3 has the same scale ressources as an indie game, which was not the case for Shenmue 1&2. Expecting cutting edge graphics is unreasonable. That said, the character models, hopefully, will look better in the final game. The environnements look great.
